Electric
bikes are a growing market. More and more people are finding that a good
electric bike makes all roads flat, and strong headwinds as easy as a breeze.
Unfortunately
as with most things there are cheap electric bikes out there and some may be
tempted by price.
£350.00 is
about enough to spend on a conventional bike. For that you will get a decent
product.
Not so for an electric bike. We have had these in for repair and to be honest they are a nightmare to fix, and quite expensive to boot. The cheap electric bike will have a poor quality frame, brake and gear system and the electrics will be terrible.
Even the wire colours do not match up. Green could go to the yellow, red could go to the green, and where the heck the blue one goes is anybody's guess.
The
batteries will be lead acid and the whole thing will weigh more than a
motorbike.
It will
hardly pull its own weight up a hill let alone a rider as well.
We sell Powabyke which has a small powerful battery and is lightweight. In fact I have seen
cheap conventional bikes that are heavier.
I have used
one for a year and it has been great . Barry now uses it to get to work everyday.
The other
electric bike we sell is the Bionx, this is a conversion kit that fits most
types of bike.
I have to
say it is the best electric bike I have ridden.
I can go up
Belle Vue bank at 15 MPH easy. It is quiet, and very powerful and I have managed to ride 60 kilometres on one
charge.
Come and
see these bikes and even arrange a test ride which will convince you of the
joys of electrically assisted bikes. |
